Jayant

I’m a PhD student in Computer Science at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, advised by Prof. Erik Cambria. My research interests are affective computing, reinforcement learning, multimodal large language models, and cognitive science for AI. My current work studies emotion understanding in multimodal LLMs grounded in cognitive appraisal theory, from predicting future emotions in dialogue to evaluating how MLLMs interpret affective art and narratives. Before my PhD, I was a Research Assistant at the Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems and ARTPARK, IISc Bangalore, working on multimodal perception, and I hold a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee.
